2407-1-The Symphony of Decluttering, Fitness, and Gaming

My condition has been improving since early July. Over the past three months, I sincerely thank my family for their selfless support. I also want to thank those friends who accompanied me on trips, to conventions, concerts, hot pot dinners, movies, tea, sports, workouts, reading, watching anime, reading comics, practicing driving, going to IKEA, and reviewing resumes: Friend L, Friend F, Online Friend L, Online Friend P, Friend S, Friend H, Online Friend H, Friend Z, Online Friend G, Friend W, Online Friend L2. Thank you all very, very, very much. (Not a rigorous correspondence)

If the main theme from April 23 to June 8 was "Travel + Baldur's Gate 3," then from June 9 to July 22, the main theme is "The King of Beasts + Regaining My State." To regain my state, I tried various things, including but not limited to fitness, adjusting my diet, decluttering, practicing typing, practicing driving, and meeting people, which are unrelated to my main work.

Originally, I planned to write about one or two important things in this journal, but in the end, I wrote about everything. Since it’s a journal, I’m not pursuing deep thoughts; it’s more about recording. (But isn’t this really a monthly journal?)

Decluttering - Getting Rid of Some Physical and Mental Clutter#

I cleared various clutter around me and in my mind.

Starting to Have Some Time to Read#

After a week of immersive play in "Baldur's Gate 3" and completing it, I began to reorganize my time:

  1. Morning: Gym on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; Library on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays
  2. Afternoon: Too hot, looking for jobs at home
  3. Evening: Playing games (occasionally going to the gym)

This rough plan kicked off this month. (It changed a few times later.)

So, I started going to the town library to read. I didn’t bring my computer or iPad, just books, paper, and a pen. Upon arriving at the library, I turned off my phone to give myself some time to read without electronic distractions.

The mornings spent reading in the library have been the most peaceful moments for my mind in the past three months. I could focus on the stories and thoughts of the characters in the books without worrying about the reality of "the rain keeps falling."

(I got quite tanned from riding my electric bike to the town library.)

"Decluttering" by Marie Kondo - Don't Fill Your Drawers#

Among the books I read, the one that impressed me the most was Marie Kondo's "Decluttering." Most of the principles in the book I already understood, but I lacked the courage or motivation to act.

This time, I finally took action.

People have limits; after understanding my "capacity," I learned to let in as much as I let out, leaving some space in the "container." I will write another article soon to organize my thoughts on my "capacity."

Things I Did Immediately#

After slightly organizing my decluttering notes, I immediately did the following:

  1. Office Environment: Moved my office location and gaming equipment to the study instead of my room. The standing desk in the study is more suitable for work, and I try to keep my room's desk empty. Separate the room for sleeping and working.
  2. Drawers: Packed some memorabilia from the drawers, throwing away unnecessary items directly.
  3. Clothes: Threw away misshapen clothes and packed those I didn't like. All clothes are hung up to avoid folding.
  4. Books: Sorted the books at home into three categories: those to throw away, those to donate to the library, and those to sell. In the future, I will avoid buying physical books if possible.

(This is the book I donated to the town library.)

Some Changes Afterwards#

  1. Sleep: No electronic devices in bed; separate the room for sleeping and working, and devices should charge outside the bedroom at night. It’s fine to read physical books.
  2. Life Habits: Established routines for getting up and before sleeping, as well as for showering. For example, preparing clothes for the next day before sleeping. No phones in the bathroom to avoid looking at the phone while brushing teeth or showering.
  3. Shopping: Buy as much as I can handle.

Focus#

The key to the whole book is to understand the size of your "container," letting in as much as you let out, while leaving some space and not filling it up.

For example, keeping my follows on Bilibili under 100 is sufficient; maintaining around 80 follows is enough. I can continue to add follows, but I also need to remove those I no longer need. After all, my time is limited, and I can't follow so many at once.

The 100 is the "container" size I set for myself; when I reach 80%, I should consider unfollowing some less interesting areas to make space for new ones.

Consistently keeping 20% space is also crucial, allowing me to engage with interesting things at any time without first worrying about "what to discard to make space, and getting entangled."

Similarly, the same principle applies to things I want to do and things I want to buy.

PS. Recently, I set a "task to complete each day," with a container limit of 1. This means I will assign a task for each day of the upcoming week in advance. Once I complete that day's task, I can play freely. (Thus, I finally have time to watch anime and caught up on "Delicious in Dungeon"!!!)

Gaming - About How I Watched 100 Movies in 3 Months (Not Really)#

Me: I completed 2 games in these 3 months.
Friend: Oh, so what?
Me: Well, it seems like nothing, but I was so busy that I didn't even have time to watch anime. It took 260 hours.
Friend: 260 hours? That's enough to watch 100 movies.
Me: !!!

PS. I seem to have watched fewer than 100 movies in my life. (Actually, I also found that an equal amount of time was spent on reading doujinshi, so it's really not good to look at electronic devices late at night)

(The reason there are two Baldur's Gate 3 entries is that I initially found it unplayable on the Steam Deck/M1 Air. Eventually, I ended up playing it on Xbox... 69 hours were played on Xbox.)

Completed "The King of Beasts"#

9/10, completed on EX difficulty without inheritance in 90 hours, which reminded me of when I played Q Pet Battle. (And what about Magic Road Shell? Not that.)

In terms of gameplay, it turns out that SRPG is my chosen game type; the semi-real-time strategy combined with electronic cricket fighting is quite interesting. Especially the skill release conditions can be set, making it very playable. However, magic damage professions are really quite constrained during the process, being countered in various ways. In contrast, physical professions are increasingly violent. The EX difficulty for the first playthrough was a bit low (also because I copied others' homework).

In terms of story and character design, I guess it’s because I played in English, so the immersion was slightly lacking, and I felt a bit fatigued towards the end. The character designs are all very appealing; the elf twins are not to mention, and yunifi's beauty, supported by strength, is also very attractive. Moreover, there are so many characters that they can't all fit into a 7x5 team. (The male characters have to be relegated to benchwarmers.)

Also, the UI is surprisingly smooth, with no lag or unnecessary time-wasting animations.

(I'll remember the Vanilla brand.)

Fitness & Diet#

Exercise - Starting to Work Out#

Initially, I found a paid tutorial video on Bilibili. However, I found that even so, I was still quite confused in the gym; it was hard to use the correct muscle groups effectively and to master the breathing rhythm. So, I hired a personal trainer for a total of 12 sessions, with the basic rhythm being he teaches one day, and I practice the next. Now there are two sessions left, but I have already mastered the basic use of various gym equipment. Each workout lasts 1 hour, with an average heart rate of 140 BPM.

As for the results, my weight initially increased by 2kg, then decreased by 1kg (my body fat should be decreasing)

I also combined with SunGuts' series of videos to correct some daily postures and bad exercise habits. His videos mainly popularize knowledge about everyday body aches and share simple detection methods and self-help techniques.

(The workout frequency should be three times a week; I wonder if I can maintain it after starting work.)

Diet#

Half a year ago, I read a post about Intermittent fasting on HN, but I didn't pay much attention to it at the time. Recently, I saw others discussing it again and started to focus on it, discovering that there are many discussions related to fasting on HN. I recently tried 16/8 Intermittent Fasting for about two weeks, and it indeed feels easier to manage than strictly controlling my diet before.

I recently started with 16/8 Intermittent fasting, so I do not consume any sugar before lunch and after dinner, only drinking plain water.

What Else Have I Done?#

Reorganized My Random Tasks#

I migrated my Random list from Trello to GitHub Project and automatically send random topics from the list to my Telegram Channel every month via GitHub Action. I also updated the game rules. You can read about the Random tasks in my previous article.

(As shown, 22 is the capacity limit for my random tasks.)

Typing Practice#

This July, the random task was to practice typing. Half an hour each day, five days a week. This website adds one letter at a time; I only completed all the letters yesterday. You can see my progress here.

I found that I used my right hand more before, and my index finger often reached the g key, causing my left hand's keys to shift slightly. (It’s really the evil asd gaming hand that caused the shift.)

(30wpm->44wpm; the average level seems to be 40wpm, while the pros are at 100wpm.)

Driving Practice#

Recently, I have been practicing driving and found that socializing and driving are quite similar in some aspects. The more afraid I am, the harder it is to start, creating a vicious cycle that halts everything. In the year since I got my license, I had never really driven. Recently, I tried to drive whenever I had the chance. After driving over 600 kilometers, I found myself gradually getting used to it.

At first, my brain struggled to distinguish which information was relevant and which could be ignored. When I first hit the road, I was still overly focused, but after more practice, things gradually improved, and I realized that many things didn’t require excessive worry from my brain.

Recently, I drove a friend's car to Guangzhou. Driving in a place like Guangzhou is really challenging; places like Zhengjia Plaza during summer weekends are truly hell.

Meetup Activities#

It’s definitely not because I feel like I can meet people after losing weight, but I really don’t resist going out as much. I arranged a badminton match, and my record was 1. (Yes, I only won one match.)

(This picture is actually a mistake; I didn’t enlarge his avatar~~)

Cooking? "Delicious in Dungeon"#

I haven't watched much anime in the past few months.

"Delicious in Dungeon" scored 9 points. Farin, oh, Farin, how can you be so cute?

Produced by Trigger, no wonder the elf's eyes after shrinking look so much like Yako's.

With great enemies ahead, let’s cook a meal first. Dedicated to friends who are in a low point in life; make sure to eat well and sleep well.

IMG_1613.png

Recently, I started adjusting the dishes at home, asking my mom what dishes to make before she buys groceries, and then checking online how to make those dishes and what ingredients to use. (Mainly using the Xiachufang app)

(It’s definitely not because I watched "Delicious in Dungeon" that I made this sweet and sour spare ribs 😆. This is the best dish I’ve ever made; it truly deserves to be a classic recipe.)

Started Playing "Zero Zone"#

Well, gacha games can bring misfortune.

👀 What Else Have I Watched#

All of these have been synced to my channel, and then I used jq to get the pinboard article list and convert it to markdown format

I will remove the ones mentioned above.

📚 🎬 📺 Works#

Work & Product NameMediumProgressRatingComments
CreedMovie100%9I will never dare to say such arrogant things as being able to recite it backward; I really can't understand it when played in reverse.

After a second watch and watching others' explanations, I could understand a bit, but I still feel that I need to draw a timeline to clarify things.
Magical Girl Raising ProjectAnime100%8I shouldn't watch anime before sleeping; once I start, I can't stop.

I rewatched it, and it surprisingly still exists on Bilibili. It’s a new anime from October seven and a half years ago; reading the comments and bullet chats is nostalgic, just like going back to those years.

The character ability settings are quite interesting. Alice is so cute, and I find Mary’s extreme criticism of Alice very amusing (I actually want to watch it a few more times)

The author is identified as a CP dismantler, first breaking up all the CPs, cutting half, and then cutting the other half.

It turns out that the corresponding novel has a regular version, followed by restart, limited, jokers, aces, queens... The worldview officially unfolds in limited. The novel has been written until 2023, and it should still be released this year. Last year, it seemed to announce the production of restart.
5 Centimeters Per SecondMovie100%8"In this dream that evaporates from memory immediately upon waking, Takaki always recalls it inadvertently. In that dream, he is still a child."

This is the enhanced novel version. Compared to the disaster trilogy, I prefer this slightly melancholic story. It’s the first time I read a book from a POV perspective. "Sakura Copy" is Akari, "Astronaut" is Takaki, while "5 Centimeters Per Second" is described from a god's perspective in a montage.

The brilliance lies in compressing a 14-year timeline into 3 hours for you to watch. I barely flipped a few pages, and it had already been fourteen years since the initial story. Readers couldn't catch up due to the compressed plot, but the characters in the story have already let go. It’s very contradictory yet reasonable.

It reminds me of friends I haven’t met since saying "goodbye" many years ago. It’s not that we fell out or anything. It always fades away suddenly at the best of times, and a careless goodbye turns into a permanent farewell. The physical distance widens, and the intersections and topics become fewer. Eventually, we slowly end up not talking at all.

PS. Takaki eventually quit his job to become an independent developer.
Baldur's Gate 3Game100%10If you can only see the paths of fate you have yet to tread, your mind will surely collapse. Be glad for the path you have chosen. After all, it belongs entirely to you.
Stranger Things Season 1TV Series100%7.5I can give it a 7.5; the pacing is indeed tight, making me binge-watch the entire season. As everyone says, "This show combines many old tropes," so the conflicts in the early episodes can almost be predicted. I rarely watch American dramas, so I can't identify where these old tropes come from. Even so, when the three lines converge, I still feel very excited, reminiscent of the Avengers assembling.

As for the memorable scenes, Nancy's violent kick at the door scared her brother. Also, the theory of the upside-down world was surprisingly discussed by a middle school student and a middle school teacher, which felt a bit forced.

Moreover, while watching this show, I immediately thought of "Life is Strange" and its complex relationships among classmates and friends, various strange parties, and of course, Chloe's Schrödinger's funeral.
Stranger Things Season 2TV Series100%8This season reminded me more of the plot from "Life is Strange." Whether it's strolling along the tracks, playing in the junkyard, shooting cans or bottles, or bleeding from the nose while using superpowers, these scenes are very similar. Especially the characters Maxine Caulfield and Maxine Mayfield, "Max, how come you also transferred to Hawkins?"

However, I really didn't expect 008 to be just a pure supporting character. I thought the plot would shift towards a superpower battle.

Also, I feel that the storylines inside and outside Hawkins are quite fragmented, as if I’m watching two different shows simultaneously.
Stranger Things Season 3TV Series100%8After Robin appeared, the American beauty in a sailor suit was really too cool.

I’m really glad I played "Baldur's Gate 3." Now I can understand quite a bit of the DND jargon.
<br; Steve has truly become the main character, always in the most interesting storyline.
Stranger Things Season 4TV Series100%8The spatial distance between the four storylines this season is so great that there are no moments of convergence.

The three storylines outside Hawkins feel quite lacking. How did Jonathan drive for a whole season and also XX, while Mike and Will went on vacation? Hopper's storyline is too exaggerated. Eleven's storyline makes me want to fast-forward every time I see it.

It’s hard not to suspect that the pizza truck storyline was specifically created for a few poorly developed characters to go on vacation.
Eliminating Three EvilsMovie100%7The three evils are: violence, greed, superstition?

It’s quite thrilling; I couldn't sleep after watching it. No wonder they say "sleep is a rehearsal for death." The deaths in the movie are so casual that as soon as I close my eyes, I feel a suffocating sensation of sinking into the sea.
Harem MarriageManga100%5Spent a night finishing it. Now I feel like my IQ is as high as the author and Kokoro. It’s really terrible; every character has to disgust the readers before they can stop.

For a moment, I even thought the male and female leads resembled Chika and Nana from "NANA."
The Sword Chronicles: Verndio 1-7Manga100%9Reviewed the first chapter; the plot is completely not tiresome. I like every character. I can vaguely sense that Kureo will eventually become king, and I hope it can resume serialization this year.

So What’s Next#

After writing this article, I feel completely unfazed, which is quite zen; it seems this is what they call neurosis. Over the past two months, I haven’t touched anything related to development.

What’s next? Finding a job is the top priority. However, while looking for a job, there are also some issues that need to be resolved. Coincidentally, I found someone who is also looking for a job, so we can discuss job hunting together.

And the goal I set for today is, of course, to write this journal. (In the end, it still took two days to write.)
