2405-4- Lazing at Home - Rationality Evaporates - Chongqing Travel

Q: Why is everyone so rich? Either traveling or attending concerts.
A: After all, it's the last ripple (money), time to find a job.

What I've Been Up To Recently#

It's already June, and I can't slack off any longer. So, let's list a few things I've done during this time. Just a simple daily record, without optimizing the writing or the main points. (Still don't want to think too much 🐶)

Second Move#

To be precise, I shouldn't say I moved, since this time I didn't even call a moving service, I just took a rideshare back. After two and a half years of a dusty room, I had already taken back everything I needed. So when I got there, I realized I didn't need a moving service after all.

Actually, I only had one table that I didn't know how to move; everything else was already gone. I bought cardboard boxes on JD that day, packed everything in vacuum-sealed bags, and just came back. The table I bought at IKEA for 600 yuan was sold for 350, and it had been gathering dust for two and a half years out of the three.

Speaking of Shenzhen, I might go back, or I might not.

About Playing Games and Looking Up Guides#

Recently, I've been busy playing "Baldur's Gate 3." The biggest dilemma is "whether to look up guides, and under what circumstances to do so."

Relying on guides greatly diminishes the joy of exploration in games and weakens the narrative experience. For example, in "The Witcher 3," during the Bloody Baron storyline, I looked up a guide and knew in advance how my choices would affect the Baron's ending. Making choices with omniscient knowledge wasted the gaming experience.

Similarly, in "Octopath Traveler," you can look up guides to collect equipment in the later maps. You can achieve invincibility early in the game, and the level suppression in the later stages also affects the gaming experience. As a result, various boss battles feel too easy, lacking the sense of challenge. (Of course, the final boss in the true ending is still quite difficult even with a guide.)

After all, some well-considered decisions and flawed choices often create the most memorable experiences in games. For instance, you might make a seemingly insignificant choice in Chapter 1 that leads to a character's death in Chapter 3, and you might remember that for the rest of your life.

An ideal way to play should be like "Fire Emblem: Three Houses." The playthrough isn't long; in the first run, you can clear a route on normal difficulty without looking up guides, getting familiar with gameplay, character strengths, and the story. In the second run, you can start a classic new file on a super hard mode without inheritance and choose a new storyline. (However, I still haven't cleared it; it's too difficult, and even looking at guides is hard to manage 🤣)

But this is something that can be encountered but not sought after; some games have such long playthroughs that I can't afford to spend time playing a second time.

For "Baldur's Gate 3," I currently have 70 hours and haven't reached Chapter 2 yet; the entire game is estimated to take 200 hours across 3 chapters. Even if I don't work, I would need two weeks to clear the first run, and I don't plan to play a second run. Moreover, even with thorough searching, you can still miss a lot of hidden information. (I missed the chance to build a good relationship with Shadowheart 😭)

So for games without a second run, to make the most of my time and not miss important elements, I still need to look up guides. However, I should only do so when absolutely necessary. At crucial decision points in the game, I will never check a guide. I believe that my intuition and decisions are the most genuine and valuable parts of the gaming experience. (I can elaborate on this topic later.)

PS. In "Baldur's Gate 3," I really have to rely on "death returns" (save/load) every day to predict how my current choices will affect the upcoming story.

The above paragraph was written on my TG channel, and below is a comment from a netizen.

As a player on my seventh run (how idle can you be?), I personally think that starting to look at any form of guides from the third run is the right path.

In the first run, everyone usually hopes to do good deeds, but often find themselves unable to do so. This is the purest form of "playing": we do our best to create our characters, and many people don't even know what the dark urge is or how to gear up, just going with the flow.

In the second run, we usually hope to achieve a so-called perfect ending and start to min-max our characters; perhaps the fool who died from a mushroom in the first run is saved by you, and you might discover many things you missed in the first run.

It’s only in the third run that players start to have the leisure to mess around here and there, causing chaos and picking up items elsewhere. This is when looking up guides begins, after all, playing games is about discovering things you didn't notice before.

As someone who has played multiple runs and a friend who hasn't even finished one, I sometimes feel quite guilty because this kind of gaming experience isn't pure...

Perhaps I'm really too idle. -- from

In hindsight, this comment is actually correct. My initial gaming experience was indeed not pure; there were many places I repeatedly saved and loaded, to the point where my in-game time and out-of-game time were almost 1:0.3. The 70 hours I mentioned might only be about 50 hours in-game. It could also be that my time spent looking up guides outside the game has skewed my perception of time.

In the first run, not pursuing a perfect playthrough and not looking up guides isn't a big issue; in fact, the game duration isn't as long as I imagined. 100 hours should be enough for a newcomer to complete the first run.

Honestly, everyone has their own games they can keep playing; not every game is suitable for me. It really feels like many people are waiting to be saved by me, and I can't move on to the next chapter until I save them. If I don't save them, they'll die; what a moral dilemma~~

Practicing Driving#

I really should have used an automatic transmission when learning to drive; I've been practicing recently, and I've driven about 200 KM.

Rationality Evaporating#

The skill held by Astolfo literally means losing rationality. However, in the work, it mainly manifests as Astolfo's personality becoming reckless and casual, acting without considering the consequences, which is completely different from Berserker's kind of madness.

As a meme, it is often used to describe behaviors that are about to or have already lost reason, or offbeat, bold actions, often used for self-deprecation. Voice actress Takahashi Rie’s obsession with shota has also been joked about as "Rie’s rationality evaporating."

Chongqing Trip#

Oh, yes, I also traveled to Chongqing. I originally wanted to comment on my feelings about various attractions, but I'll write about that in next week's report~~

What I've Watched Recently#

Actually, this is a record from April to now, piled together, so it looks like a lot.

Works#

Chongqing·1949Stage Play100%6After learning about this rotating stage play from "My Favorite Kid," I happened to see it in Chongqing and went to watch it.

The rotating stage and audience seating used for transitions are really innovative, truly a theatrical wonder. However, the plot made me fall asleep during the performance; all I remember is the love-hate relationship of three brothers.

It was quite toxic; I hardly heard a few lines of dialogue because the noise was too loud, a bit like a market. But I had no expectations; I just wanted to experience how the rotating stage worked.

Also, my seat was too far forward and too close to the side; I should have paid an extra ¥300 to sit in the middle row (those tour groups really took all those seats).
NO GAME NO LIFE Practical War GameLight Novel100%8A sweet book; it turns out to be a supplement to the previous nine books. There’s even a bit of post-war discussion.

From "Practical War Game" to "Abstract War Game." Describing the final battle from the perspective of the Spriggan, this part is written very interestingly. (After all, the Nephalem family has been having same-sex children for generations.)

"If I want to marry my senior, I must bet on my resolve to become her husband."🤣

Since Nina's family line is gone, it seems obvious who will become the wife in the end, haha.
Honkai: Star RailGame90%8It's been half a year; it feels like I've spent the equivalent of two movie tickets each month to watch two movies.
You Are 008Manga100%6During the May Day holiday, I finished the existing 21 volumes. This story feels quite cliché and boring now.

Later I found out that it was by the author of "The Strongest Disciple Kenichi."
Kowloon Walled City SiegeMovie100%6Seeking literary drama in an action film; did I get it wrong? It's more intense than Godzilla.
NO GAME NO LIFE Game Life 11Light Novel100%8Extra, extra, the Machine and the Winged race are together!!!

All along, I could hardly get through this series except for volume 6. After all, without the support of animated visuals, it's a bit difficult to imagine Enami's whimsical and chaotic stories. I just loved volume 6 so much that I bought all the physical books in the series. In the end, I watched them in the order of anime 6, 8, 9, 12, 10, 11.

After finishing 12, 10, and 11 recently, I finally understood the highlight of this series: "The setting of each race is very interesting and distinct." The fairy race, who are all asexual YouTubers, the irrational goblins, the foolish demon race, and the time-traveling dragon race. Unlike some works, where everything looks human.

PS. Anime viewers probably won't get it, as the Winged and Beast races have no characteristics other than wings, cat ears, and magic. This system probably started forming in volumes 4 and 5.
NO GAME NO LIFE Game Life 10Light Novel100%8The goblin race's setting is quite interesting; they use hammers to rely on "intuition" to create spaceships and giant breasts.
What Kind of Life Do You Want to Live?Movie100%8Said to be Miyazaki's magnum opus.

However, since I have hardly watched his other works or learned about his life, I regret not understanding it well.

I'll slowly catch up on his works and rewatch it later.
The Three-Body Problem Season 1TV Series100%7I anticipated a significant adaptation effort, but I didn't expect it to be this much. However, it was basically consistent with Uncle Rose's predictions, which is impressive.

The screenwriter actually mixed the three storylines from the three books to shoot, and it felt seamless. The grand worldview is cleverly placed within a small group. However, a point of contention is that Ye Wenjie’s daughter's funeral directly brought in key characters from all three books. I suspect that the person in the middle is Zhang Beihai, Ye Wenjie's (ex) boyfriend. Will's performance and the actor's choice fit Yun Tianming very well.

As a fan who has read "The Three-Body Problem" several times, this adaptation surprised me (who's dissing "The Witcher"?). It felt like eating a fake compressed biscuit, imagining the feeling of fullness (most of the theoretical content wasn't filmed). I feel that original readers of "Dune" felt the same way when watching the "Dune" movie.

PS. Ye Wenjie’s riddles became even more riddle-like; the black man Luoji needs to work hard to break through himself~~
The Song of the Night 14Manga100%8It's finished; I picked a cover I liked to mark it, to be precise, it's a 7. What I found interesting was actually the fighting parts, but the combat system doesn't seem to have been established yet. It feels like the story ended before it was finished, and the half-vampire plot wasn't resolved. After finishing it, my mind was full of Hoshimi Kiku, a character that makes you both hate and love in the plot.
Oxygen Not IncludedGame100H8Played for another 20 hours straight. The trick is, unless absolutely necessary, don't restart; there's always a way to solve your current problem. And you have to be responsible for your duplicants; you need to be very careful when hiring each one. I feel that if I want to continue playing, I need to plan every step carefully.
Bang Brave Bang BravernAnimation100%7It turns out it’s not a love triangle, but mutual affection~~

7 points, not very engaging (maybe I'm getting older).

There are too many points of contention; it feels like every line of dialogue is terrible (just for fun). It has a bit of that super robot animation feel like "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann." But this should be considered a mecha animation.

  • Tech Enthusiasts Weekly (Issue 301): OpenAI's Library Workstation - Ruan Yifeng's Blog - I feel the same way; in a small office, when colleagues are very close to each other, it feels very oppressive and irritating. Just the sound of keyboards can greatly affect thinking, not to mention discussions between colleagues at their desks. I didn't realize what was happening until my colleagues around me all went home early before the New Year. I then realized that after it quieted down, my work efficiency improved significantly; some things I couldn't figure out all day were solved in half an hour.
I can't help but think of the workstations in domestic internet companies. Usually, an entire floor of an office building is transformed into an open space, with everyone crammed together, often having hundreds of workstations on a single floor, resembling a noisy workshop.

This workshop-style workstation affects each other and creates a stifling atmosphere, easily making people irritable and anxious.
